Meet Fiona (Fi)

Meet Fiona (Fi)
The woman who keeps everything running smoothly.

Hi everyone,

Hope you've had a nice week.

A warm welcome to our new subscribers: Erin M., Betty, Billie, Lilly, Michelle, K., Neel, Stephane, Erin F., Franziska, Christiane, and Mary.

So that you're in the know, each Sunday I write about something in the spirit of sustainability, and sometimes I introduce you to some very cool people in the Luxtra orbit. We have a newsletter archive, here containing all the back issues in case you should all of a sudden become curious about where our donated clothes really end up, or what the certification "Cradle to Cradle" means.

Today, however we're speaking to Fi(ona)...

This is Fi and her very pink hair

Would you like to introduce yourself?

Hello! I'm Fi. Originally from London, I now live in a small town in Kent, UK, enjoying a slower pace. The first thing anyone notices about me is my pink hair. The second thing anyone notices about me is my clothes are covered in dog hair.

Tell us a bit about your business.

I run a flexible and cost-effective service that helps entrepreneurs and small companies with the boring (and sometimes less boring!) bits of running a business, so that they can focus on their strengths and on generating more revenue.

[Fi was too humble to say the name of her business, but it's called Virtually Managed 😉]

What would surprise people about your work?

People would be surprised that I started my career as a classical musician and made it here via publishing, law and fashion. My experience in different sectors and fields has helped me understand a wide variety of client businesses and makes me versatile.

What does sustainability mean to you?

For me, sustainability means not taking more than I can give. It's all balance. That goes as much for my approach to the environment as it does for relationships with people and how I manage work with my personal life. It's important to me to live my life in a way that doesn't have a negative impact on the world around me.

What's your biggest challenge at the moment?

I very recently adopted my second rescue dog, he came to me as a completely untrained energetic teenager with no boundaries and a mischievous streak, but we're getting there gradually with lots of love and patience. Managing zoom calls with an excitable puppy is very much a challenge!

What's your favourite part of your work?

That I'm helping people by reducing their stress. Hearing a client say "what would I do without you?" helps me realise the difference I'm making to people's lives every day.

And the most difficult part?

Taking breaks! Throughout the day and throughout the year, but I'm learning.

Which is your favourite LUXTRA product?

My silver Piñatex Farrell backpack is an absolute star part of my wardrobe. It fits my laptop and all my other daily necessities and it stands out so much that it gets compliments everywhere I go.

What are your top 3 things to eat / see / do in London?

1. A day at the museums in Kensington.
2. A guided walk around a corner of London. Whether it's about history or the local ghosts, the city is chock full of fascinating stories.
3. Shopping around Spitalfields followed by a drink or 3 at Discount Suit Company [yes, that's the name of a bar].

I hope you've enjoyed meeting Fi. She is fantastic to work with and I'm always impressed by how quickly she completes tasks that I've been procrastinating on for days (or weeks... or ... months!). And surprise, surprise: I don't know what I'd do without her.

Wishing you a happy week ahead,

Jessica x
