We are proud to be amongst the first brands working with the most innovative leather-alternatives available on the market.
We always have a keen eye out for the latest sustainable textiles coming to market and so are currently working with Hugo and Coen, founders of Fruit Leather Rotterdam, to develop new products using their innovative materials, which are made almost entirely from discarded fruit.
Alas, many cutting-edge materials are still in their infancy and therefore not yet available to businesses like LUXTRA. By 2021 we hope to start working with textiles from Mango Materials in the US - who produce fully biodegradable bio-polyester fibres - and many other companies like them.
By championing the use of cutting-edge vegan and highly sustainable materials, and making them in to seriously beautiful pieces, we hope to inspire the greater fashion industry to reassess the materials currently used.

We're really happy that our status as a cruelty-free brand has been confirmed by PETA: the gold standard standard in all things vegan.
Being cruelty free is so important to us as a brand, and our shiny new "vegan-approved" status makes for a quick and easy signal to our friends and customers that LUXTRA is a brand with values they can trust.
We design timeless classics. We're not in to the Spring/Summer, Pre-Fall, Autumn/Winter, Cruise-Collection [and repeat] fashion cycle.
As such, we eschew the vicious cycle of overproduction followed by discounting and clearance sales that seem to be so prevalent in the fashion industry. We see through the inflated prices charged by retailers stuck in this cycle: their mark up is roughly 3 x times what they paid the brand.
By selling directly to our customers, LUXTRA is able to offer beautiful pieces of the highest quality at a fair price. We think this is the modern way of doing things.
Every LUXTRA item is made by Cristian SRL in Pontassieve, a pretty town just outside Florence in Italy. We visit often and are very fond of Paolo, Natascia and Matteo (below) who own and run the company.
We selected Cristian because their overarching philosophy chimed with our own on many levels. They are excellent craftspeople and of course, being Italian, they appreciate beautiful products. Staff take holidays and are treated well. Cristian are also enthusiastic about LUXTRA's environmental approach and we've been impressed by their dedication towards improving their own environmental footprint. You can read more about our relationship and standards here.
Cristian are also located in close proximity to other key suppliers, such as Mabel SRL who produce for Frumat. All of which helps to keep our carbon footprint down.

Our tissue paper, cards and envelopes are all made from recycled and recyclable paper. We are delighted to have eliminated the plastic normally used when shipping products from Italy to the UK, and we will never use plastic when we deliver customer orders. Even our packing tape is recycled and recyclable!
To prolong its life, each LUXTRA handbag and backpack comes with a dust bag that is made with European grown OEKO TEX-certified cotton. Oeko-Tex cotton has been tested and is certified to be free from toxic levels of more than 100 substances known to be harmful to human health. It’s less expensive than organic cotton to produce, but has many of the same benefits.

The LUXTRA stuio has switched to 100% accredited renewable energy - and we couldn't be happier. As a result, we are reducing our carbon footprint by around 3.5 tonnes of CO2 per year... the equivalent of planting 1,770 trees.
If you're in the UK, we've had a great experience with Bulb - they made our switch smooth and easy and the price checks out as like-for-like compared to what we were paying before.
If you're thinking about going green with your energy do look in to it!
LUXTRA is a proud member of 1% For The Planet, an environmental foundation created by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard. As a member, we happily pledge to donate 1% of our total sales to an environmental cause. That commitment stands, whether we make a profit or not.
In 2018 we donated our 1% to London Waterkeeper, a charity that is fighting water pollution with the aim to make the capital's rivers truly swimmable.
We also work with Dress For Success Greater London (DFS). Their fantastic team helps unemployed women find and maintain work.
DFS provide free professional clothing, interview coaching and ongoing support once women re-join the workplace. LUXTRA donates handbags to DFS clients as an important and feel-good part of their new work attire.
